I studied architecture and political philosophy as an undergrad at the University of Virginia.  Thereafter I worked in London as a designer, writer and editor at Academy Editions Publishers.  I then returned to New Jersey and worked on very interesting projects having to do with architecture and preservation.  I designed five libraries in Manhattan including the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at 40 West 20th Street, a children's library at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Rogers and Hammerstein archives of recorded sound and others.  I worked on restoration projects including the Charles Olden House at on the grounds of the Governor's House, many brownstone restorations, Tudor Hall which was restored in the Pamplin Civil War history site in Virginia.  I went on to the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Masters of Architecture degree and  an M.S. in Historic Preservation.  I have also worked on museums, commercial projects and adaptive reuse of factory and School Buildings.

I cofounded and still teach in the Program in Historic Preservation and Community Planning and in the joint Clemson/College of Charleston Graduate Program in Historic Preservation.  I teach Architecural Design, Architectural History and Drawing.
